Now that the course is almost over, reflect on the most important things you learned in this course. Describe 2-3 assignments/activities/readings that have resulted in significant learning, and detail what you learned from those. With the course ending this week, I have reflected on the important things I’ve learned throughout the time taking this course. I’ve learned how important reading is for a child and how much it affects their development. Reading is important, whether it’s guided, independent, read-a-loud, and even group readings. Another important topic that stuck with me is how reading goes hand in hand with writing and both reading and writing affect how efficient a child’s literacy develops. Regarding children’s literature, I’d like to know where there is a bookstore for just board books and picture books, if one exists. Also, I’d like to learn the EXACT psychology between reading/writing and its effect on children’s literacy and development, learning how the brains works and why the brain benefits from reading/writing. I will use the information that I have learned in my future classroom setting by decorating the classroom for Pro-reading and Pro-writing. I will ensure that there is at least one bookshelf with books on display for children to pick books from. I have seen a couple of classrooms that did not have a bookshelf that display books but more so that the books are hidden in the corner of the classroom on the shelf. I think children will be more willing to pick up a book if they see it on display rather than hidden off into a corner shelf.
