Team Development
According to an extensive Deloitte survey in 2016, teamwork is
considered the number one global workforce trend (Kaplan, Dollar,
Melian, Van Durme, & Wong, 2016). However, HR managers and business
executives agree that teams require a great amount of training to be
successful. In the rush to implement teamwork initiatives in companies
without effective training and development, teams have failed to deliver
the expected outcomes in many companies. Teamwork training and
development for team members is a necessary component for teamwork
success.
The training programs for teams focus on several important areas
critically needed for team effectiveness such as updating team members’
KSA’s (knowledge, skills, and abilities) to include training on
collaborative problem solving, communication, coordination, confliction
resolution, and goal setting among others. The emphasis of training for
team effectiveness involves developing the needed attributes in the team
members necessary to enable them to work successfully as part of a
team.
Apart from training to enable team members to work together
effectively within the group, appropriate environmental conditions and
policies are necessary to support the team to succeed. This involves
communicating work expectations clearly to all team members, providing
the necessary support for team effectiveness, and ensuring a fair and
equitable distribution of responsibilities among members of the team.
Be sure to review this week’s resources carefully. You are expected
to apply the information from these resources when you prepare your
assignments.
