10 – Postwar American Society
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT:
Each Question must use an “Artifact, Photograph, Portrait, Letter, Song, Poem” something within each Primary Source that demonstrates the answer for each question.
1.
Explain an example from one of the assigned primary sources that demonstrates efforts to challenge segregation during the late 1940s or
early 1950s.
2.
Explain an example from one of the assigned primary sources that demonstrates either an expression of the “traditional” roles women were
expected to fulfill in postwar society or an example of women’s
rejection of such expectations.
3.
Explain an example from one of the assigned primary sources that
demonstrates the material abundance/economic prosperity in postwar
society.
4.
Explain an example from one of the assigned primary sources that demonstrates concerns with social or cultural changes in postwar
society.
Please
note: Answer each of the questions. Each answer is worth an equal
fraction of 100 points. (For example, when there are four prompts each
answer is worth 25 points; when there are five prompts each answer is
worth 20 points.) To receive credit, answers must provide full and
coherent explanations. Before submitting your assessment, also be
certain that your responses are free from spelling and grammatical
errors. Submissions that are filled with such errors will not receive
full credit. Finally, answers that do not explain examples from the
assigned primary sources when required will not receive credit. Please
refer to the “What is a Primary Source?” explanation I’ve provided on
the class website and contact me with any questions: emiller@smccme.edu.
Answers receiving 25 points:
Completely and coherently utilize examples from the required evidence to directly demonstrate support for the answer.
Effectively integrate quoted evidence into the answer; do not rely merely on long quotations.
Are free from spelling and grammatical errors.
Clearly and correctly identify the assigned evidence utilized in the answers.
Answers receiving 5-20 points:
Partially or indirectly utilize examples from the required evidence.
Rely on long, undigested quotations; do not adequately explain how the quoted evidence supports the answer.
Contain multiple spelling and grammatical errors.
Fail to clearly or correctly identify the assigned evidence utilized in the answers.
Answers receiving 0 points:
Do
not utilize the required evidence to directly demonstrate support for
the answer. Two examples of such answers are answers based on secondary
source evidence (such as The American Promise
or a documentary film) rather than utilizing assigned primary source
evidence; answers that utilize assigned primary source evidence, but in a
manner that does not directly support an answer to that prompt.
